Invitation to the French EP Bier Club Reception About the EP Bier Club Photo galleries Contacts	About the EP Bier Club The European Parliament Bier Club, formed in 1995, is a forum for discussion for many of the issues that affect the brewing sector within the European Union. More than 170 Members of the European Parliament are currently members of the Bier Club, which makes it the biggest group of its kind at the European Parliament. Unlike other groupings within the EP the Bier Club does not have the same status as an intergroup. However, its members are all united in their belief that Europe should have and retain a strong brewing sector and support the positive aspects of beer culture. President of the Bier Club is Belgium MEP Ms Thyssen, who is currently supported by Vice-Presidents representing other Member States. The Bier Club seeks to foster a greater understanding of beer and brewing within all European Institutions, and particularly the European Parliament, and supports Europe’s rich diversity of beer history and culture, which is reflected in the great traditions of Member States. The Bier Club recognises not only the importance but also the responsibility that the brewing sector has to the health, wealth, environment and economic prosperity of many individuals, communities and companies within the European Union. In order to attain its objectives the Bier Club Group undertakes visits, holds meetings, and disseminates information regularly throughout the year, including a quarterly newsletter aimed at MEPs, Commission officials and key policy makers. Examples of issues; with which the Bier Club has been involved, include major symposiums on beer and health and meetings and seminars with MEPs and representatives from The Brewers of Europe - on issues such as the excise rates review and the European Commission's Communication on alcohol and health. Every six months the national brewing association of the country that holds the European Union's Council Presidency hosts a reception for the members of the Bier Club with a selection of its national beers.
